Examples of Niche Markets That Make Money

Posted by admin on December 28th, 2008 filed in General | Comment now »

When I first started out with niche affiliate marketing, I wanted mor than anything for someone to hold my hand and say do this, do that.    Fortunately for me, even though I had some great help,  I had to learn to stand on my own two feet when it came to selecting and marketing to online niche markets.

Here are some examples of niche markets that make money.

#1 Things people need to fix.

Niche affiliate markets that address these types of issues that people are embarrassed about and need help with.

- Being overweight
- Acne problems
- Gas problems
- Consitpation
- Hair loss issues
- Sexual performance problems
- Unhappy with specific body parts

The list could go on and on.  Although most of these types of markets are competitive, there is almost always rooms for a smart  niche marketer.  You just have to provide lots of quality to your buyer.

#2. Things that people are passionate about.

These are generally ‘extreme’ hobby types of things.

Examples of these niche markets include.

- Movie memorablia and tie ins
- Nascar
- Football
- Baseball
- Collectables
- Waterford Crystal
- Band groupies
- Star treck fans
- Remote control vehicle enthusiats

People spend a ton of money on their hobbies and if you can help them locate items that are not available locally, then you will be successful niche marketing online.

I hope these examples of niche markets have helped you get some good ideas of what kinds of niche markets to target.

Wishing you success!

How To Find Your First Internet Marketing Product

Posted by admin on December 9th, 2008 filed in Finding a Product | Comment now »

One of the biggest questions new internet marketers have when starting out is how to find a product to sell. This is only reasonable, since without something to sell, no money will be earned.

You have several options here. First, you could create your own product. Second, you could sell someone else’e product for them, provided they are willing to pay you a commission (or grant you rights to sell it). Another method is to start selling things on online auction sites, like ebay.

There are a number of ways you can create your own product. First, however, let me ask you a question–what is the best product to sell online? The answer: information! Think about it.

When most people come online, they do not search with the intention of buying something. No, they are seeking information about something. They may have a problem and are seeking a solution. If you can provide information that they are convinced will help to take away their pain, or solve their problem, then they may move from information-seeker to buyer. But only if they are convinced that your item will solve their problem.

Also, information products have a lot of advantages to them. For starters, they can be stored as digital files. Therefore, there is no inventory needed–just a small amount of storage space on your computer or web server. The profit margin is huge, since there is no storage cost, no shipping cost, and no production cost (outside of having it developed). Almost 100% pure profit. They are easy and usually quick to produce.

Information products can take a number of different formats. It could be an e-book, or a piece of software. It could be a report, or blueprint, or whitepaper, even just a list of bookmarks. A recipe, etc… Literally anything you can think of can be turned into an information product.

You do not even have to come up with this on your own. You could hire someone to create it for you. Using sites like elance.com and rentacoder.com you can find people who will do these tasks for you. You can even find writers who are able to create your ebook or manual. Just be careful, do not overpay (always set your budget as ‘not sure’), and see samples of their work beforehand. This way you make sure that you have quality people doing this work on your behalf.

You could even interview someone and create a product from this. You could sell the audio file. Or even make transcripts of the recording. Incidentally, you could also use the method above to hire someone to do the transcribing for you. You could even find articles on the topic you want a product from. Take 25-50 articles (make sure you leave the resource boxes intact). Then contact the authors and ask them if it is ok if you use their article in a new book you are creating. Most will be happy to let you use their work, provided you leave a link back to their site for them. Then, you just make each article (for which you have approval) a separate chapter. You did not need to write one word, nor pay anyone to create/write this for you.

Of course, you could use each article as a starting part and maybe build some of your own content around that to create each chapter. Or you could use the articles as your inspiration and write your own. This is a great way to get started writing if you are feeling stuck, or unsure how to begin.

You could also find what is known as plr content. This is short for private label rights. These are articles or manuals that you can buy, usually fairly cheaply, and you have all rights to them. This is a way to get a lot of content quickly. However, it is usually not high quality content. The proper way to use plr content is to take it, and then change it. Add to it, dissect it, re-word and re-write it. Make it your content. Once you have done this, you will separate yourself from hundreds of others who simply take the plr content and slap their label onto it. The difference in quality is huge…and it is rather obvious.

More will be said on this topic in a later post.

Creating Your First Web Page

Posted by admin on December 5th, 2008 filed in Building Your Web Site | 4 Comments »

Once you have a strategy for your site and promotion efforts, meaning that you know which market you wish to serve and have a product, it is time to build the website.

There are a great many tools that you can use to help in this step. You could pick a web designer such as microsoft FrontPage. Another good web editor is Dreamweaver. Of course, these are not free tools. You may be able to find them at discounts on eBay and other auction sites.

There are also a number of free tools. The one I like is called NVU. This is a free wysiwyg html editor. This simply means that ‘what you see is what you get." It is as easy to use as a word processing software.

Of course, whichever method you choose to use, will involve a learning curve. This curve will be higher if you are using Dreamweaver or FrontPage (although they both ultimately provide more functionality than any of the free tools).

You could also search online to find what are called web site templates. These are basic site designs that you can purchase. Then what you do is once they have been downloaded onto your computer, copy and paste the html code into your web editor. Paste this code into the html or source sections of the editor. Then, once you switch over to the view mode, you will see that you now have a professional looking design to your page.

From this point you can simply write your content, just like using a word processor. You can add articles, reviews, anything you want. The main thing is to keep the content relevant to your goal. If you are actually selling a product, include a sales letter. You can also put in forms. Use a service such as aweber for this. This is a great tool which will allow you to capture the name and email address of your visitors, so that you can market to them again and again.

You can get content in a number of places. Go to article directories. You can usually add any article you see on these sites, as long as you do not alter it in any way. This also includes the author’s resource box at the end of the article. Of course, you should check the terms and conditions of each article directory to make sure that this is the case.

Basics of Building a Website

Posted by admin on December 4th, 2008 filed in Building Your Web Site | 4 Comments »

Below is a great article which everyone, in my opinion, should read before they design and/or build their first website. It is a very basic introduction to the thought that should go into the planning and research steps of your site.

Before even deciding that you will build a site, you need to do some keyword research to find a good market. This needs to be done BEFORE you find a product. Actually, finding a product is very easy. Finding a good market is much more critical. You can search on Google for their free external keyword tool, then just type in some keywords. This will give you an idea as to how much search volume and advertiser competition each term has. You can also use the free account at wordtracker.com for this step.

Ok, here is the article:

How to Make a Website
 by: Joshua Spaulding

The first thing you need to do is come up with an idea for your website. Try to make it something you are interested in and/or something you have at least some knowledge of.

Think of one good keyword or keyword phrase. If you are building a website about inline skates your keyword should be something like ‘ inline skates’. When choosing your keyword keep your competitors in mind. If you are building a website about computers you may want to think twice before picking the keyword ‘computers’. If you have plenty of money for marketing your website then you may be able to be successful with a very competitive keyword but if you are an average person you may want to think of something a little less competitive like ‘computer information’. A very valuable resource you should use (I use it just about every day for one thing or another) is the Keyword Selector Tool at inventory.overture. com. Type in your keyword in the very simple tool, this will show you how many searches were on yahoo in the last month on the keyword you typed in and on other keywords similar to it. I would suggest to pick a keyword that is RELEVANT to the theme of your site that has somewhere between 2,000 and 5,000 searches a month. This is because of what I said before, competition. If you are started your first website you DO NOT need to waste your time competing with Dell or Microsoft. Once you choose your Keyword or Keyword phrase either write it down or memorize it, this will be a very important part of getting your website known.

Now that you have the idea for your website and the keyword, you need a domain (the actual website address, ie. http ://www. yoursite. com) Now you need to think of a domain name. When considering your domain name, try to think of one that has each word of your keyword or keyword phrase in it, for instance, if your keyword is computer information the idea domain would be http ://www. computerinformation. com. Of course most domains are allready taken so you will have to add something in, a suggestion would be http ://www. computer-information-now. com . Do not get too stuck on picking the right domain name, allthough it is better to have your keyword in your domain, it will not badly damage your marketing. You register domains through what is called a ‘Website Host’ Choosing a bad host can cause problems in the future. I have always used the same host called 1and1, so I honestly couldn’t tell you all about every host out there. For this instruction I will use 1and1 for the examples as this is the Host I am familiar with. To find out which domains are available go to their homepage, on the right in the middle of the page there is a spot to check domain availability, you simply type in the domain you are interested in and it will tell you if it is available or not.

Now that you have chosen your domain name you will need to register it. On the previous step I explained how to find out if a domain is available or not. Go back to the host website, type in the domain you have chosen and just follow the simple steps. You will have to choose a hosting package, since you are probably brand new to all of this you may want to choose the basic package but if you know you are going to stick with this you will eventually want to purchase the business package.

Now you have come up with the idea for your site, chosen a good keyword, chosen a domain and registered it. Now how do you actually create the website? I think this is the step that scares most people away from the idea of making your own website, but it is actually very easy. You DO NOT have to know HTML ( Hypertext Markup Language ) - The code that actually makes a website work, to build a website, you DO NOT have to know anything about Website Design, all you have to know is what I have told you already and what I am about to tell you. If you do know how HTML works it is possible to make your website straight through your host but it will take you 10 times more time and effort. There is software out there that has been created for you to use that will create the HTML for you. I use a program called Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver is said to be the number one website building software on the market. When I first purchased this software I had no idea how to use it. It took a few hours to learn how to use the basics and a few weeks to learn the more advanced stuff but anyone can learn how to use it just by messing around with it and seeing what things do. Purchasing this software will be the biggest investment you will make in the whole process of making a website but in the long run it is WELL worth the investment. If you get stuck you can always call them, afterall you did pay for the software, they should provide technical support right? They do!

Thats it, Enjoy your very own unique, operational Website.

Introduction to Search Engine Optimization

Posted by admin on December 2nd, 2008 filed in Basic Search Engine Optimization | 3 Comments »

The following is a very brief introduction to Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. This is just meant to introduce the topic and terms of seo. I plan on giving MUCH more information in further posts, so please check back here regularly.

Exposure could mean a lot for different firms, organizations or groups seeking a wider venue to make their views heard, accepted, and patronized. The main term used for this web-positioning method is the seo, or the Search Engine Optimization.

—-

What exactly is Search Engine Optimization?

The Internet age has spawned a phenomenon of new terms, new jobs, and new career paths. The growth of the Worldwide Web is creating a new realm, where new types of internet-savvy folks engage in careers that require the skills of an intrepid explorer, searching for new worlds to discover. Among these new tasks are those that require the faster, more strategic placement or positioning of company adverts, documents, products or issues, in order for these entities to have the most maximum level of exposure in the web.

Exposure could mean a lot for different firms, organizations or groups seeking a wider venue to make their views heard, accepted, and patronized. The main term used for this web-positioning method is the seo, or the Search Engine Optimization.

Search Engine Optimization is the terminology used to define, or describe the action of gaining a better position within a search engine or internet directory system based upon a selected key word or a group of key words. With well over 4 billion documents already on the internet, the prominent search engines are all flaunting that they can locate most of them and show you a link from within their systems, and each of the search engines or directory providers have different guidelines by which a listing within their system is accomplished.

* Achieving Maximum exposure

As web-updated consumers, we are constantly on the lookout for sites that address our specific interests, goals, or products at a specified time and day. Most of us do not always know the URL (Universal Resource Locator) for all the types of businesses that can fulfill that interest, so we use a search engine or directory service to find them for us.

For example, I plan to go out and take my girlfriend with me to a bar, but I haven’t got an idea of which place to go to that I haven’t already been to yet. The next most probable step for me would be to go to a search engine and type in something like: ‘bars and restaurants pasadena ca"; I put in the quotation marks to make the search more specific, to get me closer to what I am looking for. The phrase I wrote, "bars and restaurants pasadena ca" will be used represent my main key word phrase.

Once I write those key words, I am, hopefully, going to get back a list of the restaurants within the greater Pasadena area, and I indeed got well over 500 or so choices too. What makes it more helpful is that I could find those assorted choices in the local phonebook listings. However, if I wish to make my list of choices much shorter, I would type in, or enter a new search maybe like: "jazz bar pasadena ca’.

Once the search engine has done its job, then I probably will get a shorter list with these new, more precise characteristics. However, the list created will be made in an order that is determined by the search engine. The first one may or may not be starting with the letter A or a number like the one on the phone directory.

From the bar and restaurant viewpoint, if they could be in the top 10 or 20 and get a lot of ‘hits’ or visits by web users, they will have a chance of being seen by the searcher. This is what Search Engine Optimization is all about: gaining a position as close to #1 as possible and then staying there on top, and to achieve maximum exposure.

* It’s all about location

For those who own businesses, then the primary name of the game is profits. Revenue of course, comes from people who spend their incomes with you. The more people spend their money with you, the richer and more successful you become.

In today’s business environment, it is all about LOCATION, and the next important word that comes is ‘ADVERTISE’.

The way the worldwide web works is the same as in the world of advertising or the directories: It’s about location in the search engines and directory systems, and advertising. If your listing is something less than the top 100, you stand an excellent chance of never being seen, or viewed. Most people are notoriously impatient, and they do not wish to wade through tons of listings. This simply means that you really need to be near, or on the top of the lists for the key words that you feel your prospective customers are, or will be using to find you.

* How Search Engine Optimizers Do This

Improving your position on the web could be done through a wide variety of methods. An easy way for this is to hire a professional Search Engine Optimization firm that can do the job for you. You could check their fees and price ranges on the web or the phone book. The process is definitely a labor-intensive one, and definitely doesn’t come cheap.

But anyway, you too can do it yourself. All you need to do is to get the rules for listing within each of the engines and directory systems where you wish to be listed, the register with them. If they allow you to point to secondary pages that also discuss specific topics, then be sure to do that by pointing to the pages within your site that cover that topic. You may also need to check on your position every month within each of the engines and directories to see how you are stacking up, and sometimes you may need to modify your site to improve your position, as well as your exposure.

Yes, indeed you can do this yourself. However, you need to really have some good advice about this subject and make sure you do not do anything that could get you into trouble with the search engines. The next post in this category will talk about what is called on-page optimization.

Hang in there until next time!

Basic Affiliate Marketing Tips

Posted by admin on December 1st, 2008 filed in Affiliate Marketing 101 | 6 Comments »

I just read a very good article about some of the basic points to consider in choosing a solid affiliate program.

It is reprinted below. However, first I wanted to just say a few words about running or promoting affiliate programs. I think this is a fantastic way to get started making money on the internet. This method is for people who do not have a product of their own already. Or maybe you think it is too difficult to create your own (it’s not, by the way). Or, you are in the process of creating your own product, but would like to get started NOW.

Either way, using affiliate programs is a way that you can get started today, even while you are developing your own products. In fact, you may want to consider getting involved with such a program that is in the same niche as what you think your own personal products will be in. This will multiply your profits down the road because you will be able to cross-promote.

Ok, here is the article:

You have a good website, perhaps about a niche area that you specialize in or about a passionate hobby of yours. Your readers love your articles. Your homepage is widely book marked and your newsletter has membership in thousands. Great!

Have you monetized your traffic? Have you signed up for Affiliate Programs?

"Affiliate programs? Hmm, What are those?" A good friend of mine who is passionate about cameras and has a blog with good readership exclaimed. What a waste of valuable traffic!

What is Affiliate Program? - A Definition

Affiliate program is a partnership between the merchants such as Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, Circuit City etc. and you, the publisher who places links to these merchant sites strategically on your websites and drive additional traffic to the merchant websites.

Terminology

Pay Per Click: Merchant offers money every time a visitor sent from your website visits merchant’s website.

Pay Per Sale: Merchant offers money every time a visitor sent from your website actually buys the product offered by the merchant.

Pay Per Lead: Merchant offers money every time a visitor sent from your site provides some information to the merchant like his/her email id or fills a form. Essentially, Merchant is getting leads to sell his stuff.

Choosing the right affiliate programs for your site?

First and foremost, it is important to understand that the chances of your visitors clicking on your affiliate links, if the topic is relevant to them, which means your website/page and the affiliate links published should be closely related.

Of course they should offer reliable mechanisms to track: the traffic sent by you, your commissions you earned etc.

In addition to payout that is attractive, I would prefer those that offer good support, those who care for their affiliates. I should be able to get in touch with easily and get responses quickly, if situation demands.

A program that offers cookie duration so that even if your visitor visits a merchant today and purchases a month later, you would still get your commission, would be attractive to me.

Multi-tier programs and programs that offer residual income can also be attractive.

If your topic is regional, you have to make sure that the affiliate program(s) chosen cater to that region.

What’s the best way to find Affiliate Programs for your site?

There are tons of Affiliate Programs out there offering from very attractive to so-so commissions. Which one to pick?

Your time is rather valuable to be checking out each of these merchant websites, making notes etc.
I find Affiliate Directories more useful, with their classification of programs, payout details and more importantly review etc., all available in one place.

You can pick the best affiliate suited for your niche much easily at a directory than on your own. Affiliate Directories help you spend more time concentrating on making your content more useful to your readers.

A few Tips for Success with Affiliate Programs

It is becoming increasingly clear these days that text links are much more successful that banners. A personal endorsement, for a targeted affiliate program with useful informative facts could help tremendously in encouraging the visitors to check out the merchants you promote.

Why do so many affiliates fail in affiliate marketing?

Fundamental and obvious reason for failure is that you are promoting stuff that is not relevant to your visitors.

Lack of conviction: Affiliate program is not just about putting a link. Get involved with a product and try it out if possible. Personal honest reviews help promote the stuff better. Only hard work pays.

If your pages designed with the sole purpose of acting as a commission-earning middleman, beware; search engines can throw your site out. Make sure that you are not a thin affiliate (a website with just affiliate links and banners, but no useful content).

Some fly by night operators take advantage of the minimum payout limits. Be sure to check the credibility of the affiliate program you are joining.

In summary, monetize your website. Let your passion bring in some revenue for yourself. Choose the Right Affiliate Program by browsing Affiliate Directories. Put some effort, get involved with the product you are promoting and increase your revenue.

Internet Marketing Strategies–Transferring A Domain Name To A New Host

Posted by admin on November 29th, 2008 filed in Choosing Your Domain Name and Hosting | 13 Comments »

How To Transfer A Domain Name

Transferring a domain name from one registrar to another can appear a confusing and complex issue. In reality it’s really quite simple after you’ve gathered a few important pieces of information.

The first step is to find the new "home" for your domain name. There are really only two options here: a domain registrar or a web hosting company which is also a domain registrar. Some registrar’s do not offer web hosting services - in these cases when someone tries to reach your site the internet directory system (called DNS) will be contacting them to find out where your website is really located. This is a perfectly viable solution but may not be the lowest cost as there are many web hosts that now also offer domain registrar services as well. This second option will allow you to manage the domain name as well as host your website in one place and often comes at a lower price than separating out the two services. You must decide what is best for you thought for simplicity it is probably easier to just have everything managed at one location.

The second step is to visit your old registrar and obtain your authorization code. This code will be required to give your new registrar the ability to request the domain name transfer. On most registrars this code can be obtained directly by navigating to the proper page. You may need to use your registrars search function and look up "authorization code" or "transfer domain name" to find out where the authorization code is stored. In the worst cases you may even need to contact the registrar to request the code. Once you have this code you are almost ready to initiate the transfer.

The third step in domain transfer is to make sure the domain name is "open" to transfer. Years ago it was really easy to initiate this activity and because of the simple rules domain hijacking was far more common. To help reduce this problem registrars moved to a system which would allow users to set domain names to a "locked" state which would prevent anyone from starting a transfer. If you have a decent registrar this will be the case and you may need to change the "state" of your domain name to allow the transfer to begin. Again this is usually managed right on the same page that you find your domain name but you may need to use their search function and or call the registrar to get help.

Once you have found your new home, found your authorization code, and made sure the domain is "open" for transfer you are ready to initiate the move. The fourth step is to initiate and accept the domain transfer. On your new registrar’s site find their domain management or transfer tool. You’ll need to enter the name of the domain and then you’ll also be asked for the authorization code. Once you’ve submitted the request you will need to check the email address tied to the domain name - this will most likely be the one you used when you signed up for the domain. If for some reason you no longer have access to that account you are going to have to jump through some hoops to get this step handled.

If you don’t have access to that email the fastest way to get this resolved is to call the old registrar and let them know what has happened. If your site isn’t a fortune 500 company you’ll most likely have an easier time but don’t be surprised if resolving this issue takes a bit of time. If you have access to the email things will be simple - you’ll most likely just need to click a link in it to "agree" to allow the transfer to begin or possibly you’ll receive a code that you’ll need to enter somewhere to allow it to begin.

Once you are all done the last thing you’ll need to do is make sure everything works after the transfer. The actual transfer will take anywhere from a few hours to many days. If things are done right you won’t suffer any downtime for your website but in the worst cases you’ll see up to 48 hours of connection issues for some users as their DNS servers are updated with the new information. In our experience there have been very few issues.

In review here are the steps:

1. Find a new registrar or a webhost which offers registrar services
2. Get the authorization code for your domain
3. Make the request
4. Accept the request which was sent to your email
5. Make sure everything works after the transfer

After the domain name is transferred you should be good to go!

Internet Marketing Strategies–Choosing Your Domain Name

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2008 filed in Advanced Affiliate Marketing Strategies | 7 Comments »

10 Domain Name Tips - That Can Make You Money

There are certain things you will need to take into consideration when selecting the right kind of domain name for your online business. It is important that the name you select is one which will clearly mark you out against your competitors if you want to make money from it. Below we offer 10 domain name tips that can make you money online and which will help when it comes to selecting the right one for your online business.
Tip 1 - It is important that the domain name you choose is not only keyword rich but is also something that reflects the product or service you are offering. So if you provide detailed maps of Europe a domain name such as euromaps.com or if you sell unusual cheeses then something like the weirdcheese.com would be useful.
Tip 2 - When buying domain names either go for those that are either existing or expired. Generally the older the domain name the much higher it will rank in the pages of search engines such as Google. When searching for domain names chose those that are around at least one year old. The best way of checking the domains as to whether their page ranking is forged or not use a site like checkpageranking.com.
Tip 3 - It is important that you choose a top level domain name (TLD). So ideally look for those that end in .com, .net, .info or .org. However, if you are trying to get domain names for a specific country say the UK then aim for those that end in .co.uk.
Tip 4 - Before you purchase any TLD’s make sure that they are all available first. Although there are plenty of services you can use to do this they do cost, but it is worth the investment. Otherwise you may be faced with issues relating to the validity of your purchase later on.
Tip 5 - If you can when purchasing your domain name make sure that you do so for a period of no less than 10 years. Again those which have been purchased for extended periods of time will rank higher on Google than those that are purchased for only a year or so.
Tip 6 - The domain names you select should be ones that are short and which visitors to your site will remember easily. These types of domain names will help to get visitors to your site returning time after time.
Tip 7 - It is preferable if you avoid domain names that include hyphens in them. However, if you are finding it difficult to get such domain names then go for those with as few hyphens as possible in them. It is best if you have to have hyphens in your domain name only have one as any more than this as the search engines will penalize you for it.
Tip 8 - Never go with domain names relating to an existing brand or trademark as you will have too many other businesses to compete with. So the chances of getting those visitors you want to your site and therefore make money is greatly reduced.
Tip 9 - All domain names should have either numbers, letters or hyphens in them and never any spaces. As with too many hyphens spaces in domain names will cause the search engines like Google to penalize it.
Tip 10 - When purchasing and parking domain names make sure that you use the same registrar. Not only does it make it easier for you to update your contact details but also when it comes to renewing them. Once you have found a registrar you can trust ensure that you do keep all contact information updated especially your email address. Otherwise when it comes to being informed of the domains renewal you won’t be given the information.
Above we have shown you 10 domain name tips that can make you money online. The better your domain name the more visitors you will get visiting your site and so the chances of you actually making some sales from the are greatly increased. If you keep the above 10 domain name tips that can make you money online in mind you cannot go far wrong with selecting the ones that are right for you.

Internet Marketing Strategies–Your Domain Name and Host

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2008 filed in Choosing Your Domain Name and Hosting | Comment now »

After you have brainstormed a few ideas for your domain name, the next step is to see what is available and purchase one. You have several options on exactly how to do this. I recommend that you find a hosting company BEFORE buying your domain name.

You can find a host just about anywhere. You could use a company like GoDaddy.com, but I prefer one of the hosts which offer a cpanel hosting platform. These companies generally are easier to work with and easier to manage. The ones I have used in the past have also all had toll free numbers are provided staff and service around the clock. This can be a great help if you are making some late night adjustments to your site and run into a few snags! I know that I have used them more than once during the wee hours of the morning.

My recomendations for hosting comapnies are:  HostMonster, BlueHost, and HostGator. These three companies have served me well.

Once you have looked at their various features (which are fairly close), decide on one you like and sign up for a monthly hosting plan. They are very affordable these days. I believe that all of these companies will offer you one free domain name registration when you join a hosting program. This is one of the reasons why you should buy the domain only AFTER you have your hosting set up.

To get the domain, you go to the section in your cpanel that says something like ‘Domain Manager.’ Just follow the instruction on the site. Basically it will take you to a screen that says ’search for domain availability’ or something similar.

You want to try and stick with a domain that has the.com extension available. This is almost essential if you will be using your website for the purpose of selling or marketing something.

There you have it! Once you find something that seems good, lock it in and register. You can either use your name and the registrar or you can opt to keep it private. Keeping it private will save you a bunch of spam from email harvesters. Most of the hosting companies will offer you this option free of charge.

Depending on your host, there may be one more additional step to get everything situated properly. You may have to ‘activate’ the domain name to get it ready for hosting. See your particular host for instructions on exactly how to do this. It’s real easy, usually only one or two clicks of the mouse and your all set up.
